Playground equipment in the municipal parks throughout Iowa Park will open on Friday May 29, 2020. The playground equipment was closed to the public on March 27, 2020 due to the COVID-19 disaster while the municipal parks have remained open. The coronavirus apparently does not spread as easily on surfaces as previously thought and staying physically active is essential for healthy people of all ages. The municipal parks, lakes, walking paths and open spaces are opportunities to relieve stress, breathe fresh air, absorb vitamin D, stay active, and safely socialize with others.
The public is encouraged to protect themselves and others from COVID-19, especially young children who may need to be reminded frequently to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and water. Playground equipment will NOT be cleaned or disinfected on a regular basis so thorough hand-washing after touching shared surfaces is important. Responsible adults should accompany small children and sick people or those recently exposed to COVID-19 should avoid public parks and playgrounds. Social distancing is recommended. Frequent hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after nose blowing, coughing, or sneezing. Not all playgrounds have nearby public restrooms so it is a good idea to bring hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to use when soap and water may not be available. Be safe, healthy and have fun.
