It was a beautiful 4th of July morning: not too hot, not windy, and a little cloudy, just perfect weather for enjoying the outdoors.
The Dynamic Disc 2 Disc Challenge was the second official tournament held on Gordon Lake Disc Golf Course since it has been opened earlier this spring in Iowa Park.
According to Billy Price, one of the tournament directors, all 50 available tournament positions were sold two days prior the competition, 49 people actually participated in event, 40 men and 9 women. Most of players were from Iowa Park, Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, and Vernon.
Contestants competed in a single round event using the two discs they were provided when they showed up. The idea behind providing discs for participants was that even beginners who don’t own discs can try and see if they like the game, to introduce new people to disc golf.
The tournament was fun for everyone who participated.
Bobby Dale Haney made a hole in one on Hole 11. It was his first hole in one ever!
Jeremy Bell and Bruno Torrez won the Men’s Division top two positions. They tied at the end of 12 holes with a score of 31. They continued to compete for five more holes before Jeremy won the tie breaker to claim the top prize for the tournament. Bruno Torrez took home second prize. By the way, Bruno was an overall winner in the first Gordon Lake Disc Golf Tournament, three months ago.
Brittany Doughton won the Women’s Division with a score of 46. Sarah Land and Lynn Holt tied for second place and split the prize.
Joe Varela won the Closest to the Pin contest. His disc was 2 feet 8 inches from the basket barely edging out Michael Hopper’s disc landed 3 feet 4 inches from the target.
The prizes were $50 cash from Vinyl Designs, $25 gift card to Rafter J, and a Midrange discs and Hat donated by Birdie Town Disc Golf to the winner in each division. Second place prizes were $25 cash from Vinyl Designs.
Proceeds from the tournament will be spent for a new tee pad. Combined with the basket purchased with proceeds from last tournament, it’ll make new, Hole 13, for the Gordon Lake Disc Golf Course.
Here is some feedback on the tournament from participants.
